The 8th of March marked International Women's Day across the world and in this edition of Datasets and Beating Hearts we pay tribute to the incredible women in our family, from our team through to our partners.
That ecosystem spans the amazing women in rural South Africa’s North West province who help build and support their communities with Qhubeka, to women like Ashleigh Moolman Pasio, who is breaking barriers at the highest level of the sport.
We see you, we salute you and we thank you. Each one of your stories is unique and for us all to celebrate together.
From our soigneurs to our head of logistics, these are the women behind the scenes who work tirelessly to keep the team moving forward! Thank you!
Luisa Grappone - Product Engineering Manager (MSc Aerospace Engineering)- Hunt Wheels
Luisa Grappone hails from the motherland of cycling, pink jerseys and big mountain climbing (aka Italy), but made the move to Sussex to further strengthen the HUNT wheel development team as a first full-time in-house wheel engineer. With an MSc in Aerospace Engineering, Luisa has a wealth of experience in the bicycle industry having worked for a total of 9 years at Italy's two most prestigious wheel companies with much of her life spent sweating over CAD drawings, carbon fibre lay-ups and crunching wind tunnel data.
She is a specialist in composites and aerodynamics, having wind tunnel tested her wheel designs with no less than 3 World Tour Teams. At Team Qhubeka ASSOS, work closely with Luisa on product development at Hunt Wheels.
In North West province, South Africa, previously unemployed women have learnt the skill of building and truing Qhubeka bicycle wheels. With this, they are now able to provide for their families.
